A selected range of Plant Fleet Services products and services are available to registered businesses and other government departments and agencies. Selected items are also available to the public.

Hire of vehicles, plant and mobile equipment

Plant Fleet Services has a large range of vehicles, plant and equipment suitable for just about any task. The following vehicles and equipment are available to registered businesses and other government departments and agencies, with selected items also available to the public.

  • Passenger vehicles
  • Light commercial vehicles
  • Heavy transport
  • Major heavy equipment
  • Specialist transport
  • General plant

Hire conditions

In order to recoup the costs of owning and operating plant items and vehicles, Plant Fleet Services charges a hire fee.

The rates are based on a 'dry hire daily rate' (ie. customer must supply own fuel and operator) and are calculated by a part or full day, depending on requirements.

For long term hires such as vehicles, monthly rates are charged automatically, saving unnecessary paper work.

Maintenance and repair services

Plant Fleet Services has a modern facility and employs competent staff to carry out maintenance and repair activities such as car and equipment services.

They also offer the following services to any person or company, at competitive rates:

  • industrial panel beating and spray painting
  • roadworthy/safety certificates for vehicles and trailers up to 16,000 kg gross vehicle mass (GVM)
  • certification of vehicle modifications.

Plant Fleet Services strives for the highest quality. To guarantee this, they have recently gained 'Quality Assurance Complying' certification with the new ISO/NZ-9000/2000 series. This quality system integrates with the Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Standards, which promote safety in the workplace whilst being aware of the environment and its impacts.

Plant/vehicle acquisition and disposal

In line with its Annual Replacement Program, Plant Fleet Services purchases all its plant and equipment (such as vehicles) for Council through tenders and quotes.

The plant or vehicles being replaced are all sold by auction.

Passenger and commercial vehicles

Council's passenger and commercial vehicles are sold at auction once the new vehicle item has been received and put into service.

Trucks and heavy plant

Council's heavy plant and vehicles are sold at auction once the new truck or plant item has been received and put into service.

Tenders and quotes

For information relating to tenders and quotes currently being advertised, visit our Current Tenders web page.
