In 2026, Logan is a green city. We are renowned for our stewardship of the natural environment.
Most of us live in urban hubs or smaller community-minded villages, enjoying the benefits of ecologically-sensitive buildings and commercially vibrant surroundings while keeping a strong connection with nature.
Green and Growing
We have found the balance between managing our city’s growth and enhancing our natural environment. This, combined with educational programs and campaigns, has created a high level of awareness and respect for the environment among Logan residents. We have established a network of green corridors thriving with local native vegetation and wildlife. Natural habitats are safeguarded against further development and enhanced by re-vegetation and animal welfare initiatives.
As well as protecting areas of environmental significance, Council continues to maintain and improve our parks and recreational open space. Council also supports the city’s ‘slow food’ culture, encouraging our now-familiar backyard vegetable patches, urban community gardens and local produce markets.
Acting Responsibly
Logan City is drought-proof. Collaborating with other regional authorities, Council implemented a total water-cycle management system that enhances the quality and quantity of our water resources and helps maintain the health of our Logan and Albert Rivers.
Community and industry have advanced the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle with incentive schemes such as compost exchange programs that enable us to achieve optimal waste management practices for our city. Innovative ideas continue to enhance our water and waste management practices.
Our community is better prepared and also has greater resilience to natural events and disasters.
Becoming an Eco-City
Eco-friendly design and proactive legislation has spurred innovative new ways to build. Developments now offer a diverse range of affordable water and energy efficient choices for home or business. Community, commercial and recreational activities are focused around public transport hubs. These mini-cities incorporate higher density, green roofed and leafy village precincts surrounded by safe, activity-based green-space facilities.
Extensive walking and cycling tracks, affordable and accessible public transport, neighbourhood shuttle services, effective home automation and high-speed digital networks have all combined to give us unprecedented flexibility in how, when and where we live, work and play.
Cleaner, Greener Industry
Green technologies and knowledge-based enterprises such as advanced manufacturing have come to the fore. The combination of innovative waste management practices and more efficient use of energy sources like wind, solar, hydro and thermal, have reduced dangerous emissions, pollution and excess consumption of resources. Noise pollution is down and air quality has dramatically improved.
Working together, community and government have reduced our footprint and enhanced our natural
environment. Logan City is fast becoming an eco-city.
