About Cr Able

Cr Able, Mayor from 2006 to 2008, is now relishing in the role of Councillor for Division 5.

He has served as a Logan City Councillor since 1985, serving eight terms on Council and chairing the Health Committee and City Works Committee during that time. He was Deputy Mayor for seven years from 1997 to 2004.

Cr Able, who has lived locally since 1975, describes himself as self educated. He spent his childhood at St Vincent Home Nudgee Orphanage, a time of which he is proud.

After working as a farm hand and travelling extensively around Australia with book companies, Cr Able worked for PMG (now Telstra). In 1978, he set up his own commercial cleaning business.

He and his wife Margaret have four children.

Cr Able has continued his open door policy and works hard to remain accessible to the community.

"I love that people today are talking about Logan and are proud to live here, and that we have such a diverse and vibrant community," Cr Able said.

He says local government is a "people business" and one of the things he most enjoys in his role is the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life.

He is involved in many community organisations and is committed to ensuring Logan's residents are given maximum opportunity to succeed.

Cr Able's mottos for life:

  • "Never forget where you come from."
  • "Save some money for tomorrow."
  • "Give everyone a fair go."
