About Cr Dalley
First elected in 1997, Cr Cherie Dalley has been a Councillor for 11 years and represents growth areas in the west of the city.
She is president of the Queensland Consumers’ Association and an executive member of the Australian Local Government Women's Association.
She is committed to working at a grass roots level for the residents of Division 8. She says it is important to involve the community in all Council matters, as real politics occur at the ground level.
A divisional community consultation committee has been active since the first year of Cr Dalley’s time at Council. The committee advises on the small and large issues within Division 8. Cr Dalley said she finds the committee’s comments on policy matters are invaluable and assist her in making decisions that benefit the whole community.
A mother of three grown children and one grandchild, Cr Dalley has lived in Logan since 1980. With her husband Stewart, she operated a commercial tiling business until 1999. She is committed to helping small business people thrive in Logan.
Over the past 20 years, Cr Dalley has been heavily involved in community groups. Cr Dalley is a Legatee, past president of Logan Central Respite Management Committee and a member of the Zonta Club of Logan. She is also treasurer of the Logan Beaudesert Crimestoppers Committee.
"Logan is about to undergo major changes and major growth," she said.
One of the major changes for Division 8 is the construction of a $17 million indoor sporting complex beside the Browns Plains Landfill, due to open in 2009. This will complement the $600,000 sporting field development already in use.
"I look forward to the exciting challenges that the expansion of Logan City will bring," she said.
