Kerre Burley being presented with awardGiggles Swim School from Gould Adams Park Aquatic Centre, Kingston has taken out "Swim Australia's" Award of Excellence at the annual Swim Australia convention on the Gold Coast last month.

This national award was presented by Swimming Greats Hailey Lewis & Jessica Schiper to owner Kerre Burley at a special awards dinner. Kerre recently returned from New Zealand where she conducted numerous presentations to swimming organizations on infant & preschool concepts.

Kerre will be representing her swim school again next month as a guest speaker at the Austswim Convention to be held on the Gold Coast , where Kerre will be presenting concepts from the Giggles Swim School on Laughter & Relaxation in Swimming Lessons to Swimming Teachers from all over Australia.

“Giggles swim school not only specializes in the 0 to 7 years age group but provides additional assistance to busy parents with late night and Sunday classes. There is no longer a reason not to teach little ones water safety and survival skills here in Logan," says Kerre.

“We are going to continue to strive for excellence & offer the local children & families our fully professional and successful learn to swim programs and standards.” Anyone interested in the ongoing aquatic and swim sessions can contact Gould Adams Park Aquatic Centre on 3290 2725.

Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards (GAMAA) 2008

The Yugambeh Museum - Language and Heritage Research Centre, located at Beenleigh was honoured at the Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards (GAMAA) 2008 held 30 October 2008. The museum won a GAMAA for the "Organisations: Staff of up to 6" category for its innovative Drumley Walk project.

The Drumley Walk is an annual three-day walking pilgrimage following the footsteps of Billy Drumley who regularly completed the long journey across Yugambeh country during the early 1900s to visit his sister Jenny Graham who lived with her many children and grandchildren.

Billy Drumley is remembered with great admiration throughout the region and his community still regard him as a local hero. The Drumley Walk is undertaken by many members of the local community to keep the stories of his life and times alive. The Drumley Walk began in 2005 as a private tribute by a small group of relatives, including walk Director Rory O'Connor, who works at the Yugambeh Museum.

The museum was dedicated to the ongoing research and preservation of the traditions and cultural heritage of the Yugambeh Ancestors. The museum has exhibition and training facilities and an extensive collection of historical resources relating to the local area.
