EnviroGrants program

Great idea for an environmental project that will help the local environment and the local community? Just need some funding to get started?

The EnviroGrants program aims to, through community awareness and participation, enhance and protect Logan's natural environment and foster environmentally sustainable practices in Logan.

The EnviroGrants program:

  • offers grants of up to $5,000 per year, per project;
  • offers a recurrent funding option whereby you can apply for up to $5,000 per year, per project for 3 years; and
  • is for people wanting to achieve positive local environmental outcomes.

Projects considered for funding must occur within Logan City and relate to one or more of the following categories:

  • environmental projects on privately owned/non-Council controlled land (e.g. planting, weeding, erosion control, etc.);
  • environmental projects on Council controlled land (e.g. planting, weeding, erosion control, etc.);
  • environmental education, marketing and communication projects;
  • environmental surveys and research (e.g. water quality monitoring, flora and fauna surveys, etc.); or
  • environmentally sustainable projects for small business (i.e. projects that assist small local business in becoming more environmentally sustainable).

'Ecofacts: Sustainable Solutions for Logan City's Small Businesses' (Four Walls and A Roof) - will provide small to medium enterprises with the knowledge and tools to ingrain social, economic and environmental sustainability into the fabric of their business ethos and systems. 3 $4,825 $ 4,825
'Strengthening Private and Council Owned Riparian Corridors through Greenwood Lakes and Surrounds (Oxley Creek Catchment Association Inc.) - restoring key riparian habitat and raising awareness of the importance of these areas through installation of habitat boxes, weed control, community plantings and open days. 3 $5,000 $ 9,825
'Surveying and Monitoring of Council Parks and Reserves and Community Education in Relation to Birds and their Habitat in Logan City' (BrisBOCA) - surveying and monitoring of selected sites within Council parks/reserves over three years and hosting related community education talks and displays. This will assist Council in assessing changes in bird populations over extended periods and also identification of significant habitat areas. 3 $4,865 $14,690
'School Education Project/Community Education Project' (Backyard Habits, formally allocated to South East Queensland Wildlife Carers Association Inc, however the project and project manager remain the same) - displaying live native animals in schools and at community events and developing associated marketing materials (eg. signage, fact sheets, etc.). This will assist in educating/raising awareness amongst students and the community about native animals. 3 $5,000 $19,690
"Go Solar at Home" Workshops (Green Door Group) - a series of six workshops over three years will demonstrate to the community the ease of installing and utilising solar energy technology around the home. 3 $991 $20,681
A Sustainable Future for Burrowes State School (Eco Club - Burrowes State School) - students will be educated about a number of sustainable activities including water tank installation, enhancement of existing native vegetation, composting and establishment of a fruit and vegetable garden for use in the school tuckshop. 1 $4,990 $25,671
Good Shepherd Anglican Church Nature Education Trail (Anglican Parish of Logan) - a number of weeds will be eradicated and a nature education trail will be established on the church grounds, with an onsite water tank providing irrigation for native vegetation planted. 1 $5,000 $30,671
Trinder Park Community Garden Regeneration Project (Trinder Park Community of Care) - this project will be a continuation of previous EnviroGrant regeneration projects in the environmental area on the retirement home grounds, focusing on further native tree planting and enhancement of the dam spillway. 1 $3,000 $33,671
Go Batty in Logan - Backyard Discovery Project (Bat Care Brisbane Inc.) - a series of workshops and information days will be held across the city over 2008/09, which aim to raise community awareness of the importance of mega bats and microbats. 1 $5,000 $38,671
Operation "Eco-Repairo" (Loganlea State High School) - a livestock exclusion fence will be installed in the school grounds, along the Logan River so that erosion mitigation and revegetation works can commence in the riparian zone. 1 $5,000 $43,671
Revegetation and Weed Control of Open Woodland and Riparian Zone (Springwood State High School) - environmental weeds will be removed in the school's environmental areas (particularly the riparian zone) and then revegetated with native species. 2 $4,950 $48,621
Windaroo Valley State High School Wildlife Forest (Windaroo Valley State High School) - the school's wildlife corridor will be enhanced through planting of additional native vegetation, aiming to attract koalas and native birds, as well as installation of a variety of nest boxes. 1 $5,000 $53,621
Our Australian School Caring for Our Environment (St Philomena School) - students' awareness of the importance taking responsibility for the environment will be increased, through establishing native vegetation throughout the school. 1 $5,000 $58,621
Earth Keepers Program (Boronia Heights State School) - over the next three years, students from years 6 and 7 will attend a camp which aims to instil in them the importance of environmental protection through a range of activities during and after the camp. Upon their return, the students then act as mentors for others who did not attend. 3 $4,960 $63,581
School Yard Blitz (Loganlea State High School) - erosion and flood mitigation activities will be carried out by students and teachers in a number of erosion and flood prone areas on the school grounds, through planting of native vegetation and establishment of contour banks. 3 $5,000 $68,581
Cedar Vale and Veresdale Areas Native Flora and Fauna Brochure (Logan and Albert Conservation Association Inc.) - a colour brochure will be produced, which will aim to increase community awareness of the importance of the rare dry vine scrub (Veresdale Scrub) and associated wildlife in the Cedar Vale and Veresdale Areas. 1 $5,000 $73,581
Species Survey and Management Strategies for the Cornubia Wetland Reserve (Barry Fitzpatrick) - this project will be a continuation of last year's EnviroGrants project, consisting of native flora and fauna surveys (including plants, birds, fish and frogs) and recommendations for future management actions within the Reserve, with the aim of enhancing Council's database. 1 $5,000 $78,581
Woodridge State High School Multicultural Community Garden (Woodridge State High School) - a sustainable community food garden will be established on the school grounds, through recycling and reusing existing school resources and utilising produce at the school tuckshop and for event catering, with the aim of raising awareness amongst students, teachers and parents of the importance of environmental sustainability. 3 $5,000 $83,581
Bushtucker Garden Restoration and Enhancement and Erosion and Sediment Control Works (Kingston College) - the school's bushtucker garden and walking track will be restored and enhanced through weeding, planting of native vegetation, mulching and erosion and sediment control measures. 1 $5,000 $88,581
Kingston Green Generators (Eco Club - Kingston State School) - several sustainability projects will be undertaken on the school grounds, such as establishment of a multi cultural garden, planting of native vegetation and expansion of the school's recycling program, with the aim of enhancing student and teacher knowledge of the importance of such activities. 1 $5,000 $93,581
"Revegetate Your Acreage" Workshops (Green Door Group) - a series of workshops involving the community in planting of native species will be held over three years on a Land for Wildlife property in Mundoolun. The workshops will aim to illustrate the importance of vegetation for things such as fauna habitat, soil conservation, water management, etc. 3 $1,709 $95,290
Habitat Homes and Waterways Revegetation (Trinity College) - nest boxes will be installed throughout the school grounds to enhance wildlife habitat. Native vegetation will be established in the riparian area in order to control erosion and stabilise the bank. Native vegetation will also be planted in other areas around the school to create shade and increase biodiversity. 2 $4,400 $99,690
Rejuvenation and Extension of Aboriginal Culture Trail (Jimboomba State School P&C) - the school's Aboriginal curriculum will be enhanced through establishment of a bush tucker garden, as well as planting of native vegetation along the school's culture trail. 1 $5,000 $104,690
"Lost (nearly) and Found" (Christine Niblock) - awareness of endangered species will be raised, through artwork displayed in libraries, as well as interactive community and young people educational presentations and activities. 3 $5,000 $109,690
Locating Singapore Daisy in East Logan (Wildlife Logan) - Singapore Daisy (and other weed) occurrences on roadsides and public land will be identified, located and mapped across East Logan, with an aim to enhance Council's database. 1 $5,000 $114,690
