Land for wildlife

The Land for Wildlife program began in Victoria in 1981. It was introduced in south east Queensland in 1998 and has been growing ever since. The community based organisation 'South East Queensland Catchments' (SEQ Catchments) coordinates the program in south east Queensland.

Participation in the Land for Wildlife program is:

  • free (no cost for you to join);
  • voluntary (and you can leave at anytime); and
  • non-binding (doesn't alter the legal status/title/zoning of your property).

The benefits you receive by joining Land for Wildlife include:

  • free native plants every year;
  • assistance with land management through information and advice that is specific to your needs, through regular newsletters and free technical advice;
  • networking opportunities (e.g. social barbeques, workshops, etc. with other CIP members);
  • recognition for your land management and conservation efforts; and
  • enhancement, protection and management of biodiversity by caring for a range of native plants and animals and providing key links to other bushland areas.

Who can join the Land for Wildlife program?

  • individuals, groups and organisations with properties over 1 hectare in size that contain native bushland; and
  • landowners willing to integrate land management practices with existing land uses (eg farming, tourism, etc.) so as to enhance, protect and manage wildlife habitat.

If you would like to apply for Land for Wildlife registration for your property, fill in the Land for Wildlife application form (pdf) and return to the Planning and Environment Policy branch at Council.

For further information on Land for Wildlife, visit the SEQ catchments or Greening Australia web sites or contact us. For information on other voluntary conservation schemes please visit the Conservation Incentives Program web site.
