Vegetation laws
Council controls a wide range of potential nuisances and health hazards relating to vegetation and unsightly conditions on private property, under its Local Law No. 10 (Public Health).
Land-owners are expected to prevent vegetation from becoming overgrown, or a fire hazard. Similarly, residents are expected to ensure their properties do not impact on the local amenity, through becoming untidy or poorly maintained.
To report a vegetation nuisance or hazard, contact the Customer Service Branch on (07) 3412 3412.
Where Council needs to direct a land-owner or a person responsible for a property, to clear excess vegetation (usually long grass), or to remove unsightly material, notice is served on the land-owner or occupier.
Should the notice not be complied with, Council will arrange for the necessary works and will claim the costs incurred from the land-owner as a charge on the land or as a debt recoverable from the person responsible for maintaining the land.

Land-owners who receive a Council notice to clear excess vegetation need to be aware that Council is not directing the removal of vegetation protected in the Vegetaion Management Area under the Logan City Council Planning Scheme.
Enquiries about protected vegetation and the Vegetation Management Area should be directed to Council’s Customer Services Unit on (07) 3412 3412, or you can consult the Vegetation Management Area User Guide. For information on revegetation please visit native plants or Conservation incentives program.
