Have you ever returned to your car only to find it wasn't where you left it?
It's a horrible feeling, but it doesn't have to happen to you.
For the fourth year, Logan City Council, in conjunction with the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council, will again be running "Operation Bounce Back", an education campaign to help residents prevent their cars from being stolen.
Community, Sport and Customer Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Hajnal Ban, said the Operation Bounce Back team would launch the program on 19 May, with particular emphasis on immobilising older vehicles to prevent theft.
"Officers are going to be out and about, giving residents some handy hints to prevent their car being stolen," she said.
"They are also offering 130 fully installed, Australian Standards approved, engine immobilisers, to owners of older vehicles and those who have been a victim of a vehicle theft in the past."
Councillor Ban said some residents think if their car is old and of low value, it won't be stolen.
"This is not the case," she said.
"Four out of five vehicles stolen in Logan are older cars with low monetary value. And the most commonly stolen model is the Holden Commodore.
"If these cars were fitted with immobilisers, it would be very difficult for thieves to steal them."
Statistics from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council reveal Woodridge, Shailer Park, Beenleigh, Slacks Creek and Browns Plains have the highest rate of car theft in Logan with a total of 313 reported stolen cars in 2006/2007.
To enter the draw to win a fully-installed engine immobiliser, valued at $200, complete the entry form available in your local newspaper, Neighbourhood Watch newsletter, online, or visit one of Council's Local Government Week displays.
