Get stars in your eyes at Beenleigh Library next month

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Two favourite Australian authors will visit Beenleigh library next month to meet local readers.

Debra Adelaide, author of The Household Guide to Dying, and Toni Jordan, author of Addition, will visit the library as part of the Books Alive campaign - an Australian Government initiative encouraging people to read.

The Books Alive website, to be launched on Sunday, July 27, will give Australians a list of 50 books they should read, rather than listing thousands of titles people could read.

Ms Adelaide’s Household Guide to Dying charts a woman’s attempts to make provision for her husband and daughters when she's diagnosed with cancer.

The woman - author and domestic advice columnist, Delia Bennet - knows it's time to get her house in order.  After all, she's got to secure the future for her husband, their two daughters and their beloved chickens.  But as she writes lists and makes plans, questions both large and small creep in.  Should she divulge her culinary secrets? Read her favourite novels one last time? Plan her daughters' far-off weddings?

Ms Jordan’s first-time novel Addition is a funny and uplifting story about a damaged young woman who is obsessed with numbers and falls for a man she meets in a cafe.

Addition is novel about being in love with numbers. Main character, Grace Vandenburg, is damaged and screwy, but not a victim: she's quick-witted, flirtatious and headstrong. She's not the least bit sentimental but she may be about to lose count of the number of ways she can fall in love.

Join the authors of these new release books at Beenleigh Library, Crete Street, on Friday, August 1 from 10.30am to noon for an insight into their books, light refreshments and autographs.

Both books will be available for purchase on the day, and with every book purchased, readers will receive the free novella Bombproof by Michael Robotham.

This is a free event supported by the Books Alive campaign and The Courier Mail Big Book Club.

Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning the library on 3807 5511.
