Learn more about private art collections at Logan Art Gallery during August

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

If you've ever wanted to start your own art collection or are interested in seeing the works other people collect, now is the time to visit Logan Art Gallery.

From 8 August, the gallery presents a focus on private art collections including the breath-taking exhibition, Accounting for the Collector.

Logan Art Gallery Visual Arts Program Coordinator, Annette Turner, said Accounting for the Collector examined private art collecting through the collection of Brian Tucker, whose generosity and genuine belief in the arts and artists make him much more than just an art collector.

"Mr Tucker, an accountant, has been a passionate collector of contemporary visual Australian art, including contemporary Indigenous art, for more than 20 years. The extensive collection is evidence of one person’s passion and vision and is as much about stories as it is about art practices," Ms Turner said.

"The exhibition has been a collaborative project between Mr Tucker, Griffith University, Logan Art Gallery and Redcliffe Art Gallery and will be shown across two sites. Redcliffe Art Gallery is exhibiting selections from Mr Tucker’s Indigenous collection while Logan Art Gallery is focusing on works which consider the Australian landscape, flora and fauna, subsequently identifying the collector's kinship to the regions."

Accounting for the Collector will be on display at Logan Art Gallery until Saturday 6 September. Logan Art Gallery is open 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday to Saturday and is located on the corner of Wembley Road and Jacaranda Avenue, Logan Central.
