Logan plays host to international riders for Spring Mountain Endurance Ride

Monday, June 15, 2009

Greenbank will welcome horse riders from Queensland, Australia and worldwide next weekend for the 24th annual Spring Mountain Endurance Ride.

Customer and Corporate Services Chairperson, Councillor Lisa Bradley, said Council was pleased to sponsor to the ride, which was last year named Logan City's Event of the Year.

"The Spring Mountain Endurance Ride is a family-oriented event where parents ride alongside their children, enjoying the fantastic views, challenging terrain and friendly atmosphere in pristine natural surrounds,'' Cr Bradley said.

"The event continues to grow in size and injects an estimated $200,000 into the local economy annually, with most of the visitors staying in Logan.

"It has a rich and cultural significant history and Council's sponsorship is part of our commitment to supporting community events."

Councillor Hajnal Ban (Division 11) said entrants came from around Queensland, Australia and even internationally.

"Riders consist of many local and regional Queensland riders, interstate and international riders from Malaysia, Japan, the United Arab Emirates  and New Zealand who come to Logan for this unique Australian experience,'' Cr Ban said.

"In the past, sheiks from the United Arab Emirates have attended the event.

"This ride had the largest number of entrants for an 80km event in Australia in 2008 and has held this title for many years."

More than 200 horses are expected to take part with riders aged between 5 and 75, as well as a crowd of more than 500 people.

The Spring Mountain Endurance Ridge is hosted by Big Country Endurance Riders and will be held on 20 and 21 June at the Spring Mountain Wetlands Reserve, Tully Connection Road, Greenbank.
