The Waterford West community has given their support for the proposed redevelopment of Tygum Park.
Logan City Council has this week endorsed the final landscape master plan for the park following a comprehensive community consultation process.
Environment, Parks and Waste Management Committee Chairperson, Councillor Lynne Clarke, said Council said the process was essential to gain the community's feedback about the project.
"Council met with local residents several times discuss their thoughts about the master plan and also invited feedback on our website and through independent website Bang the Table,'' Cr Clarke said.
"Following consultation, the project consultant was able to update the master plan to reflect the community's feedback."
Cr Clarke said changes included final recommendations for locating pedestrian/cycle access from Kingston Rd to the pathway circuit around the water's edge.
''The location of this pedestrian/cycle access will also create opportunities for passing pedestrian and vehicular traffic to see into the park,'' she said.
"The proposed pathway circuit around the lagoon area will be positioned as close to the water's edge as possible, enabling buffer plantings for the space between the pathway and residents' fencing.
"Council will make improvements to the environmental habitat around the lagoon to encourage more fauna and flora, and additional shade has been provided for the new model boat launch area adjacent to the water's edge.
"Traffic calming devices will be installed in the car park area to reduce hooning and improve safety for pedestrians.''
Councillor Graham Able (Division 5) said the park would be a recreational centre for Waterford West, featuring play areas as well as recreational facilities for cyclists using the regional cycle network.
"Tygum Park is an integral part of the local community and this project will give residents' improved access to the lagoon as well as Henry Jordon Park,'' Cr Able said.
"It will also enhance the area's environmental health with the treatment of stormwater entering the lagoon and rehabilitation of key vegetation areas.
"There will also be extensive landscaping, artworks, parking, a lookout, a new jetty and storage facility for the model boat club, and improved security and surveillance around the park."
The next stage of the project will include the development of design and documentation for the proposed pathway and other recreational facilities.
