Here’s something for the kids

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Looking for something to keep the kids busy during the September holidays?

The tomato patch program is a fun way to introduce kids to gardening while keeping them busy.

Andrew Addenbrooke from Little Green Thumbs, will be hosting a kids gardening workshop on Tuesday 29 September from 10am - 11am at the Logan Art Gallery.

The interactive workshop is designed to introduce kids to the wonders of nature, while providing environmental awareness and hands on experience.

Andrew said the workshop was an educational, exciting and innovative way for children to discover and investigate the natural world.

"At the end of the session every child will walk away with their own potted tomato plant," he said.

Logan City Mayor, Councillor Pam Parker, said the workshop was a great way to get children involved in gardening from a young age.

"I think it is important for children to experience different types of learning environments and the Little Green Thumbs workshop is a great initiative," she said.

The 2009 logan garden showcase features the popular Garden Competition with new categories introduced this year and competition entries closing on 24 September.

Judging will occur between 5 and 9 October and winners will be announced at the Logan City Water and Energy Expo Awards Ceremony on 25 October.

This year's event has been made possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors: LJ Hooker (Major Sponsor), Quest Community Newspapers, Australia Post, Kingswood Press, Logan Water, Loganholme Nursery and Landscaping Centre, The Great South East and Little Green Thumbs.
