It's big, colourful, full of interesting stuff, and it's coming to a venue very near you!
The Logan City Council "youth van" has been officially unveiled and is set to entertain and inform local youngsters with it's wealth of information and activities.
Speaking at the official launch of the youth van, Mayor Pam Parker said Logan's newest youth engagement tool would be a valuable asset to the community.
"Logan City Council decided to embark on this project because we wanted to provide young people with a space where they're free to take part in a range of activities or simply hang out with other young people in a safe and interesting place," she said.
"This wonderfully well resourced mobile facility we see here today, will benefit young people in Logan for many years to come."
Health, Sport and Community Services Committee Chairman, Councillor Phil Pidgeon (Division 9), said the $81,000 facility would provide access to youth services, information and a range of activities and workshops.
"This is a terrific investment that is going to provide so much for young people here in the Logan community," he said.
"This youth van is the first of it's kind in Australia and is fitted out with computers and internet access, an LCD screen, wheelchair access and a big collection of sports and arts equipment."
The youth van will be easily recognisable around Logan thanks to the handiwork of seven young artists who spent the past few weeks decorating the exterior.
Paige Harrington-Karaitana, 14, from Woodridge; Troy Silence-Harris, 12, from Logan Central; Tiffany Maher, 13, from Jimboomba; Riley Fletcher, 10, from Forest Lake; Joel Noffke, 13, from Loganlea; Jemma Neary-Grant, 13, from Narangba, and Tatiana Siddells, 12, from Crestmead, were each chosen to paint the walls of the van after submitting impressive entries in Logan City Council's design competition. Their colourful designs are now immortalised on the sides of the van.
The youth van is set to visit each division within Logan City over the next two months. The van's first public appearance will be at the official opening of Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre, on Saturday, 3 October.
