Have a say on the future development of Bahrs Scrub

Thursday, October 01, 2009

Calling all Bahrs Scrub landowners - this is your opportunity to influence Council's decision making about how you can develop your land in the future.

Planning and Development Committee Chairperson, Councillor Cherie Dalley (Division 8), said Council wanted to draft a local development area plan for Bahrs Scrub and was seeking community input at an early stage.

"The Planning Study for Bahrs Scrub is in the very early stages of development," she said.

"We are inviting landowners and residents to attend a community workshop which will be held on Thursday 8 October from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Windaroo Valley High School."

Cr Dalley said the workshop would provide participants with an opportunity to discuss the details of the planning study with Council officers.

"Importantly, participants will have a chance to provide feedback on issues such as their vision for the area, proposed community services and facilities, and future open space and recreation opportunities," she said.

Background

The South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031 has identified the Bahrs Scrub locality as a Local Development Area.

The regional plan identified a number of Local Development Areas in Logan City. These areas, because of their size and attributes, are intended to be developed for urban purposes and, in doing so, help Council achieve the dwelling targets allocated to it in the regional plan.

Council must now prepare a more detailed Local Development Area Plan for this locality. This plan will identify those areas suitable for urban purposes and those areas required to be conserved or managed for a variety of purposes.

The plan will also identify the range of necessary infrastructure needed to support development of this locality.
Council has started this plan making process and the final plan, and its statutory components, will be integrated into Council's planning scheme.

Council is currently in the initial scoping stage. This stage is intended to identify the range of issues that need to be addressed during the plan making process. As part of this process, Council is consulting with a range of stakeholders, including state government agencies and landowners as to what they see as the significant issues for developing this locality. These issues will then be formulated into consultancy briefs for further studies to be undertaken. The output of these studies will then be used to formulate a range of land use options that can then be further tested and refined.

Residents interested in Council's future planning of Bahrs Scrub are invited to the information evening.
