School holiday boredom is a problem of the past for Logan youngsters, who've go-karted, rock climbed and cooked their way through the September break.
Around 5,000 local children have taken part in Logan City Council's KRANK holiday activity program since its origin in December 2006. The popularity of the two-week program has sky-rocketed in recent times, with participation numbers peaking this year.
The KRANK program offers youngsters between the ages of 13 - 17 years more than 30 different activities, including: laser skirmish; hip hop dancing; rock climbing; canoeing; fishing; go-karting; cooking; jewellery making; boxing; hebel sculptures; African drumming; skate boarding and swimming.
Health, Sport and Community Services Chairman, Councillor Phil Pidgeon (Division 9), paid a flying visit to the recently opened Crestmead PCYC to join in on some of the youngsters' holiday fun.
"Apart from playing a few games with the kids, I was very pleased to see the high level of activity going on in and around the new PCYC," he said.
"The KRANK program is really thriving and it's an extremely worthwhile initiative for the young people of Logan."
The KRANK program is jointly funded by Logan City Council and the state government's Community Renewal initiative. The program currently costs around $75,000 a year to deliver, however with state government funding now finished, Cr Pidgeon said it was important the program maintained adequate financial support.
"The KRANK program will require around $100,000 annually in order to expand and grow into the future," he said.
"Wherever possible, the program itself supports Logan businesses by selecting them as venues for activities, so I would urge the local community to support KRANK."
