They have struck fear into the hearts of their opposition and now the BDS Logan Thunder has struck a chord with Logan City Council.
Council has put its weight behind female sport by agreeing to sponsor Logan's own Womens' National Basketball League (WNBL) team.
Health, Sport and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Phil Pidgeon (Division 9), said the sponsorship would ensure the team remains competitive in the WNBL competition which it joined in 2008.
''The BDS Logan Thunder is the only team in Logan to be part of a national sporting competition and the sponsorship request presented us with a real opportunity to not only support female sport, but also one of our own teams,'' he said.
''All members of the team have been great ambassadors for the city and have helped promote Logan wherever the WNBL competition takes them.
''At a time when sponsorship dollars are increasingly difficult to find - and that is certainly the case for female sport - Council decided to get behind our girls and give them the support and encouragement they need to take on the nation's best.
''Our sponsorship is $25,000 in cash to help with the finances of the team and $25,000 in-kind which includes making the venue available at no cost.''
Cr Pidgeon said the sponsorship arrangement would be mutually beneficial with Logan City and the Thunder's home venue of Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre standing to benefit from the sponsorship.
''The sponsorship has given us a unique opportunity to support sport in the city, promote Logan City to the nation and raise the profile of our new, international-standard $17 million Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre right around Australia,'' he said.
Council will also be given the opportunity to invite key community and business representatives to watch the BDS Logan Thunder in action by having access to 18 corporate seats at each home game.
Council will also be able to distribute 50 tickets to home games throughout the community.
''Logan Thunder has been assured of at least three home games being televised nationally which presents the city with a great promotional opportunity to showcase what we have on offer to the nation,'' Cr Pidgeon said.
''We will also be given the opportunity to have signage on display at any of the home games and invite members of the BDS Logan Thunder to any Council or community event.
''This team is already turning heads in the national competition and with the support of their Council and community, there is no limit to what they can achieve - Council wishes them all the best for the season.''
The BDS Logan Thunder's next home game will be on Sunday, 25 October at 2pm against Perth.
Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre is at 357 Browns Plains Rd, Crestmead. Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for children five-18 years, and $35 for a family of two adults and two children.
