Logan Volleyballer Tanya Beths is the 2009 BDS Logan City Sportsperson of the Year.
The 20 year old Daisy Hill resident was one of 12 athletes and sports administrators recognised at last night's gala 2009 BDS Logan City Sports Awards ceremony at the Logan Entertainment Centre.
Logan City Mayor, Councillor Pam Parker said Tanya's outstanding record of success and representation in state and national volleyball teams made her a standout.
"When you look the long list of teams Tanya has represented both for Queensland and Australia, it is clear she is a true champion of her sport," she said.
"Tanya clearly possesses great characteristics as a sportsperson because she has achieved tremendous success with every team she has been a member of."
In 2008, Tanya Beths won gold medals in volleyball at the Queensland Corporate Games, as well as the National Under 21 Indoor Volleyball Championships, where she was vice-captain of the Queensland team.
She also collected a silver medal with the Queensland team at the open age Australian Indoor Volleyball Championships.
Tanya also displayed her "all-rounder" qualities by competing in club level weight lifting competitions, whilst studying for a double-major in Sports Studies and a minor in psychology at the University of Queensland.
She has also established her own company "tagged by Tanya", promoting health, fun and fitness for youth.
Cr Parker said all of last night's award winners and nominees were worthy of high praise.
"Sport is such a tremendous way building friendships and being part of a team, as well as the physical benefits it brings," she said.
"There has been a lot of conjecture about the decrease in physical activity throughout the western world, but the stories behind these awards prove sport is still a key part of our way of life in Logan."
