Conservation concepts flow at Water and Energy Expo

Monday, October 26, 2009

More than 1500 people attended Logan City Council's second Water and Energy Expo at Logan Entertainment Centre on Sunday 25 October.

Logan Mayor, Councillor Pam Parker, said the expo provided a great opportunity for people to learn more about their use of water and energy and to seek information on how they could better conserve these two precious resources.

The expo, scheduled during National Water Week, offered more than 36 stalls for attendees to explore.

The stalls ranged in interest from Green Sustainable Projects, home insulation, and energy audits through to government rebates.

Cr Parker was on hand to announce the winners of the 2009 Logan Garden Showcase - grow and show competition.  Winners were announced across 12 categories.

Cr Parker said the recent weather conditions had made gardening more challenging and she congratulated all entrants for their commitment not only to designing and creating beautiful gardens, but most importantly, for their commitment to energy efficient gardening methods and water conservation.

Ranger Stacey from Channel 10's Totally Wild was a crowd favourite with the kids.  She announced the Logan Schools Sustainability winners and then spent a couple of hours mingling.

City Governance, Finance and Water Committee Chairperson, Councillor Luke Smith (Division 6), said the expo was a great forum for people to go along to and learn more about how they could reduce their environmental footprint.

A 2000 litre Waterpoint Slimline Rainwater Tank was up for grabs and attracted more than 150 entries.  The winner will be drawn this week and notified by a Council officer.
