Logan City Council can now lay claim to having the first Councillor elected to a board position for Economic Development Australia (EDA).
City Governance, Finance and Water Chairperson, Councillor Luke Smith (Division 6), was appointed to the prestigious board during the Annual General Meeting in Melbourne on September 29.
A director on the Invest Logan Pty Ltd board, Cr Smith said his appointment promised long-term benefits to the economic development of Logan City.
"I see my participation on this board as a fantastic opportunity to forge new relationships with like-minded business people from all around Australia," he said.
"EDA provides us with an opportunity to get on board with some of the best economic development practices going on in other councils and organisations."
Cr Smith said EDA members shared ideas and discussed challenges being experienced in the current economic climate.
"My participation in the EDA is 100 per cent focused towards ensuring our business, the business of Council and the business of Logan, continues to thrive during the changing economic climate," he said.
"When you think about it, Logan is still a relatively young city, and this board appointment makes our participation with this association even more exciting. We have so much to gain - I expect in another 30 years we will have a really attractive and dynamic business environment, one that other organisations and councils can benchmark against."
EDA teleconference meetings are held every month to discuss economic development trends and practices.
