An active Logan is where residents value and integrate physical activity into their daily lives through participation in sport, recreation and everyday activities.
To build an active Logan, Council knows it will not only need to continue developing a range of quality, accessible and affordable sport, recreation and physical activity places and opportunities, but will also need to develop and foster strategic partnerships with key organisations inside and outside the city.
Council has developed the following strategies, and is implementing their recommendations, to help it meet this challenge.
Active Logan: Energising Logan into 2008
Active Logan: Energising Logan into 2008 (pdf) discusses the importance of physical activity, provides strategic direction for Logan City Council regarding local sport and recreation opportunities, and offers a snapshot of Council's priorities and current resources. In particular, it focuses on the Logan community and what is needed to close the gap between existing and target physical activity levels over the next five years. Finally, and most importantly, the document offers an action plan to make that happen.
Logan Active Youth Spaces Strategy 2006
Logan Active Youth Spaces Strategy 2006 (pdf) is about developing innovative, exciting and engaging recreation events, activities and infrastructure in parks and public spaces for Logan's young people. The Strategy provides guiding principles, a framework for implementation and specific recommendations to create inclusive spaces for young people to participate in physical activity. It provides a holistic, collaborative and integrative approach to engaging young people in physical activity by recognising the need to include arts, music, culture, events, active and community recreation activities in spaces that are supportive and inviting.
Logan Sport & Recreation Strategy and Facilities Plan 2003
Logan Sport & Recreation Strategy and Facilities Plan 2003 (pdf) provides a rational approach to sport and recreation planning for the immediate future.
Loganlea Physical Activity Plan 2005
Loganlea Physical Activity Plan 2005 (pdf) provides a comprehensive review of physical activity in Loganlea and presents a range of collaborative and practical solutions to increase the community's participation in and access to physical activity opportunities in their local community.
Sport & Recreation Park Master Plans
Sport & Recreation Park Master Plans provide a coordinated and strategic planning approach to the provision and development of sport and recreation infrastructure and opportunities. The development of a master plan involves reviewing, analysing and identifying sport and active recreation needs and issues for Council, clubs and the community they serve, and provides strategies to address these factors.
The master plans include both a written report detailing what direction each reserve should take over the next 20 years and a concept plan of what the reserve may look like. Please note that these concept plans are not definitive and will be reviewed regularly as sporting trends change, opportunities arise and the community's needs change.
