Garden competition

Gardeners rejoice! It's time to smell the roses and put on the gardening gloves as the popular Logan City Council Garden Competition returns.

This year we're encouraging gardeners to focus on waterwise and energy efficient gardening practices, as every drop of water is precious.

The competition opens on 17 July and gardeners have until 3 October to register their entries. Judging will take place on 13 and 14 October and the winners will be announced on 17 October from 6.30 pm at the Beenleigh Community Centre.

Colin Campbell and Annette McFarlane will again judge the competition.

This year's categories are:

Residential

  • Best Small Residential Garden for gardens under 800 square metres
  • Best Large Residential Garden for gardens over 800 square metres
  • Most innovative use of space, plants and materials
  • Best Outdoor Room for outdoor entertaining areas that incorporate a garden
  • Grand Champion Garden selected from the first place winners in the residential category.

School/community project gardens

  • Project gardens largely maintained by students, parents and teachers, and community groups.

Commercial and industrial

  • Includes street beautification works carried out by a commercial enterprise.

There are plenty of prizes on offer for the grand champion garden, as well as first, second and third prizes in each category, with a total pool of $2,800.
