Logan City Youth Council
The 2001 Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census data identifies those aged 0 24 years as representing 68,245 (42%) of Logan's permanent population.
The aim and purpose of the Logan City Youth Council is to:
- To provide a forum for the opinions and views of the youth of Logan;
- To create an active interest in the local affairs and community events of the City;
- To foster a sense of civic pride among the youth of Logan;
- To participate in and achieve an understanding of the operations and functions of local government; and
- To provide an environment to facilitate leadership skills, project development and management, team work, public speaking, written skills, chairing and facilitating meetings.
The Youth Council reports to Council's City Governance & Finance Committee.

Following are the Terms of reference, roles and responsibilities of those young people selected to represent their peers on the Logan City Youth Council.
Term of appointment
- Two years - terminates 30 June every second year.
Membership
- The Youth Council shall comprise a maximum of fourteen general voting members.
- Two Council staff representatives - Meetings Support Officer and Youth Planner (non-voting members).
Conditions of Membership
- Members must actively participate.
- Membership is for two years unless:
- Resignation is given by the member in writing to the Youth Council Chairman.
- In the event that any member fails to attend two successive meetings without having lodged an apology, a formal letter will be sent to that member. If a member fails to attend three successive monthly meetings without an apology, their membership will be terminated.
- In the event that any member fails to attend three successive meetings, with or without having lodged an apology, a formal letter will be sent to that member. If a member fails to attend four successive monthly meetings without an apology, their membership will be terminated.
- Cancelled by Logan City Council if a member fails to meet the conditions of membership.
- Membership is an honorary position.
- Transport to and from meetings is the responsibility of the Youth Councillor.
Office Bearers
Executive positions include:
- Chairperson
- Deputy Chairperson
- Secretary
The executive positions are elected by the Youth Council at the second meeting of the newly constituted Youth Council. Each office bearer serves two years in the position of office.
Meeting Procedures
- The Youth Council meets once a month. Meetings start at 5:00pm on the last Tuesday of each month. Meetings will last for up to two hours.
- Meetings are held at the City Administration Centre, Logan City Council, 150 Wembley Road, Logan Central, unless otherwise resolved by the Logan City Youth Council and approved by Youth Coordinators.
- Meetings are open to members of the public.
- All meetings of the Youth Council will need to have a quorum of at least 50% of the Youth Council members, before any recommendations can be made.
Background
Logan City Youth Council is an initiative of the Logan City Council and was established in 1989. Council's Meetings Support Officer, City Governance Branch, in partnership with the Youth Planner, Community Engagement Branch, provides all secretariat and executive support, advice and assistance to the Youth Council and its members.
