Registration
Do I have to register my cat?
Yes, the State Government has introduced legislation (Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008) as part of its program to manage unwanted cats and dogs in Queensland. From 1 July 2009 all cats over the age of 12 weeks must be registered with Logan City Council.
You can register your cat by completing the application for registration/change of registration of dog or cat form (pdf).
Registration fees
Discounted registration fees will apply for desexed cats. Owners of entire cats will have to pay registration from 1 July 2009 - no amnesty will apply and higher registration fees are payable. Should you have your entire cat desexed during the amnesty then the free registration will apply to 30 June 2010.

Amnesty for desexed cats
Although Council has set registration fees for entire and desexed cats, a 12 month amnesty period (to 30 June 2010) will apply to owners of desexed cats. Cat owners are still required to register their cats.
Cat registration benefits
- Cat registration will give your cat the best chance of being reunited with you if it is impounded.
- Many impounded dogs are able to be reunited with their owners because they are wearing registration tags. With the introduction of cat registration the number of cats released back to their owners is expected to increase.
- Compliance with legislation
- Promotes responsible pet ownership.
- Maximises re-homing of animals.
- Minimises euthanasia rates of unclaimed impounded cats.
