A. QCOSS recently provided Pay Equity Funding Workshops throughout Queensland to assist organisations to develop an understanding of the pay equity decision and the implications for the sector. The workshops were also used to generate implementation strategies for equitable application of the funding across your organisation. In addition to the workshops, a variety of tools have been developed to use as you work with your Board/Management Committee to implement the new Queensland Community Services and Crisis Assistance Award – State 2008 rates equitably within your organisation.

  3. Pay Equity FAQs – A list of some of the most commonly asked and answered questions in relation to the Community Services Award and the supplementary government funding. 4) Pay Equity Implementation Strategies – a summary of the pay equity implementation strategies and links for further information.

To access these tools please go to Community Door or QCOSS websites.

Q. The Community Services Award rates have increased as of September 1st 2009, where can I find the correct rates of pay?

A. The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission provided that wages or salaries prescribed by all awards for full-time employees be increased from 1 September 2009 by an additional sum of $16.20 per week. As a result, the Queensland Community Services and Crisis Assistance Award – State 2008 rates of pay have changed.

HIPPY Programs Expands to 3 New Queensland Locations

The Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care, Kate Ellis has announced 3 new Queensland locations for the Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY), an initiative that helps parents prepare their kids for school. The Australian Government has committed $32.5 million over five years to roll out the HIPPY program in 50 communities. The program will assist up to 3000 families nationwide. This week Logan Central was added to the list, so organisations should keep an eye out for details on this new project.
The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters offers home tutoring, books and educational resources to preschool aged children. “The great thing about this initiative is that it works directly with parents and their children to give them a helping hand in preparing for one of the most critical transition periods in a child’s life,” Ms. Ellis said.

Further information about the Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters and access to the Expression of Interest documentation is available at Hippy Australia.

Opportunity for Staff of Small to Medium Organisations to have their Voices Heard

Developing Your Board (DYB)

This wiki is a collection of non-profit governance resources as well as the home of the Developing Your Board (DYB) research project. This project aims to assist nonprofit boards to become reflexive. Reflexive boards continually learn to adapt to changes in their environment and to manage the competing demands they face. Importantly for the life of the organisation, they are then able to pass these skills on to incoming board members. In this way, long-term sustainability can be achieved. Non-profit boards and management committees are invited to complete online surveys as part of the pilot testing stage. This is essential for validating the surveys. If you are interested please contact Anne Overell at a.overell@qut.edu.au or 3138 6780.

Access the Developing Your Board (DYB) Wiki.
