The aim of the project, 1000 Voices, is to collect and display 1000 life narratives from people with disability from around the world. With this collection of narratives, it is hoped to open the eyes and ears to the lived experiences of people with disability; to provide opportunities for people with disability to have their own voice in determining how their lives are seen and heard; and to make sure that these voices become part of ongoing research, service, and policy development activity in Australia and beyond.

The 1000 Voices Project will from 2009-2011. Stories can be uploaded during this period. Research will commence on existing stories uploaded to the site at the end of 2009.

Disability Awareness E-Learning Resource

This E-Learning Resource was created through the Enhancing Access project, which works to facilitate people with disabilities and those recovering from mental ill health into volunteering. Also working to raise awareness levels in communities, and encourage volunteer managers to recognise the skills and talents of the individual. The aim of this information is to:

  • Outline the benefits to your organisation by incorporating an inclusive culture into your volunteer program.
  • Look beyond the person’s differences and discover how individuals can positively contribute to your volunteer program.
  • Show you how you can promote diversity from within – both with paid staff and other volunteers.
  • Help you understand some of the issues that may be associated with specific conditions, and whether this would impact on their volunteering.
  • Explore the best way to communicate and teach your new volunteer by taking into account the learning style that works best for them.

Check out the e-learning resource.
