Pests and vectors
Since colonisation, many species of animal have been introduced into Australia from other countries.
Introduced animals can be major pests causing a great deal of environmental and economic damage. Introduced animals can:
- compete with, and prey upon, native animals;
- damage native plants;
- degrade natural habitats; and
- damage historic and cultural sites.
