Council has a free disposal service for chemicals, paints and pesticides.
The dates for these services in the 2009/10 year will be as follows:
- 7/11/09 - Browns Plains Landfill
- 6/02/10 - Carbrook Transfer Station and Logan Village Transfer Station
- 08/05/10 - Beenleigh Transfer Station and Greenbank Transfer Station
Residents will be entitled to bring up to 10 litres of each of the following chemical types: water based paints, solvent based paints, pesticides, arsenic based materials, cyanide, photographic solutions, pharmaceuticals, acids, alkalis, solvents and pool chlorine.
Materials that do not fall into these categories will not be accepted.
Materials such as fluorescent tubes, motor oil, cooking oil, vehicle batteries, domestic smoke detectors, rechargeable batteries, mobile phones and accessories, sharps (used syringes - residents only) and tyres are accepted at the landfill 365 days per year.
There is no charge for disposal of these materials with the exception of motor oil ($0.20 per litre for every litre in excess of 20 litres) and tyres (ranging from $5.00 for car tyres).
Paint, which has been allowed to harden, is also accepted 365 days per year and is also the subject of standard SmartTiP disposal fees.
