Where the water service supplied to a commercial or industrial premises is a designated fire service, as defined below, an annual water service charge of $200.00 plus fire supply volume charge, as defined below, will be levied.
A designated fire service is defined as a water service specifically and solely used for fire fighting purposes. The designated fire service could be a stand-alone service or may be a designated part of a split service (see diagram).
The fire supply volume charge is determined by the following formula:
Charge = (Avol * Arate) + (Pvol * Prate)
where:
Avol = Volume up to an allowance for testing purposes of 3 Kilolitres per quarterly billing cycle
Arate = $2.25 per Kilolitre
Pvol = any volume per quarterly billing cycle greater than 3 Kilolitres
Prate = N times the Arate
where N = 10, unless documentary evidence is provided to Council's satisfaction that Pvol was used for a fire emergency and hence N = 0.
Installing a Designated Fire Service
Some commercial or industrial premises have one water service connection both for their water supply and their fire service.
Usually the diameter of the water service is larger than otherwise needed due to the water flow needed in case of a fire.
In these cases, to save costs, it is possible to have a separate and smaller water service connection installed for the daily water supply. The larger connection can then be the Designated Fire Service.
