Food safety competition

With Australians now cooking and entertaining more at home, food safety has never been more important.

To promote 2009 Australian Food Safety Week (9 to 15 November), Council has an online competition open from 1 to 30 November. Logan residents who score between 9 and 12 points will be entered into the draw to win one of our food-themed prizes.

The major prize consists of:

  • in car 12V fridge/warmer
  • 20L party tub
  • barbecue set in metal case
  • fold away cheese platter

Runners up prizes include an electric pepper grinder, insulated bottle bag and barbecue apron with tools.

How to enter
  1. Please fill in your name, phone number and suburb. These are compulsory fields. If you reside outside of the Logan City area, choose other from the suburb drop down box. 
  2. Select either true or false to the below 12 statements.
  3. Select the submit button to be entered into the prize draw.

1. I always wash my hands after using the toilet.
2. I always wash the chopping board with detergent and dry it well after use, especially after cutting up raw meat or chicken, or I use a separate chopping board.
3. I like my hamburgers rare.
4. I defrost precooked food on the bench top.
5. When I store food which has just been cooked, I let it cool to room temperature on the bench before putting it into the fridge.
6. I keep the fridge in my home at or below 5 degrees Celsius (50C).
7. I sometimes use a tea towel to clean the kitchen benches.   
8. I wash visible dirt from vegetables before eating them.   
9. I cover ready-to eat food, such as salads before I put them into the fridge.  
10. I store bags or trays of raw chicken and meat on the top shelf of the fridge.    
11. I spread my dish cloth or sponge out between uses so that it can dry out.
12. When I have a barbeque, I put the cooked meat onto the same plate I used to carry out the raw meat to save washing-up.
