Introducing the Logan Public Health Plan 2003 - 2008

The Logan Public Health Plan 2003-2008 is a five-year municipal public health plan for Logan City. The Logan Public Health Plan therefore outlines the strategic direction required to achieve a measured improvement in public health for the Logan community and is a strategic tool for building partnerships to solve health and quality of life issues at a local level.

The development of the Logan Public Health Plan aims to set the framework for:

  • Enhancing integrated and collaborative planning for improved ‘health’ in Logan;
  • Implementing effective planning mechanisms, which identify and respond to local public health needs;
  • Identifying how services can be better accessed by the community for their health needs; and
  • Engaging the community in decision-making on health needs and services.

It is envisaged that the information will be used in the allocation of resources and planning of initiatives to promote public health in the Logan community.

How was the Plan developed?

The Logan Public Health Planning Project commenced in 2001. The development process has aimed to capture and articulate the outcomes needed to enhance community well being and quality of life in Logan by the Logan community as a whole, involving residents, community groups, health agencies, and government and non-government organisations.  Approximately 450 individuals have contributed to the production of the plan through focus groups, theme groups and community health profiling.

Further information on the development of the plan is contained in the Logan Public Health Plan.

Lead Partners

The role of Lead Partners

  • Determine which actions they will undertake for a particular financial year. These actions will then be able to form part of the particular agencies' operational plans. It is recognised that resourcing constraints may hinder or defer the implementation of the actions;
  • Coordinate and administer actions as identified. This will include organising partner meetings and auspicing grants if appropriate;
  • Communicate with and attend the Advisory and Implementation Committee meetings. It is expected that the lead partners will advise the Advisory and Implementation Committee of their plan (ie. timetable) for implementing the determined actions and provide regular feedback on progress so that the Committee can inform the community on the progress;
  • Involve stakeholders and existing community groups where possible; and Go to top
  • Encourage community ownership.
