UPDATE THURS 10AM: Severe Weather Logan

Heavy rain between 200mm and 400mm and strong winds up to 90km/h are predicted for the greater Logan area from early Thursday afternoon.

The severe weather is expected to continue into Thursday evening and people are advised to avoid roads and stay inside where possible.

Schools across the region are closed for the day.

Tully Road in Greenbank and Kurrajong Road in Jimboomba have water across the road water and Council crews have placed signage in those areas to warn people against trying to access those roads.

Avoid all unnecessary travel on Thursday due to expected hazardous road conditions.

  • Visit council’s Disaster Dashboard http://disaster.logan.qld.gov.au/ for all the information you need to be prepared before, during and after severe weather including how to plan an emergency kit, weather warnings, road closures, airport information and news updates.
  • Move your car under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure loose outdoor items.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
  • Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

Libraries and Logan Art Gallery

Due to the severe weather, the all Logan City Council Libraries will be closing today from 12pm.
Mayes Cottage and Logan Art Gallery will also be closed.

Sandbag collection points

The SES depots at Daisy Hill (26-36 Winnetts Rd) and Logan Village (1464 Waterford-Tamborine Rd) are open for sandbag collection.

Other location for sandbags include Logan City Council's Marsden Depot (181 Chambers Flat Rd, Marsden).

Council is hoping to make sandbags available from the Munruben depot and Eagleby Community Centre (8-16 Cowper Avenue, Eagleby) from 10.30am Thursday. People coming to Munruben will be expected to fill the sandbags themselves.

Please be aware, that due to the overwhelming demand, traffic around the sandbag collection points will be congested.

Sandbags will be limited to 15 per person due to the need to meet demand across the city.

Please note, sandbags can also be purchased from hardware stores and other similar retailers.
