Christmas comes early for Logan sports clubs

Eleven Logan sports clubs will share nearly $1.75 million in combined capital funding from their own fundraising,

The successful projects will each receive between $60,000 and $100,000 from the state government towards providing new or upgrades to playing field lighting, playing fields and amenities.

$67,000 raised by sporting clubs and $1.06 million in State funding will compliment more than $620,000 promised by Council.

Chair of the Sports and Community Services Committee, Cr Russell Lutton said he was delighted so many project applications from Logan City Council had been successful.

“A recent Council initiative has been to target an increase level of funding from state programs such as the Places and Spaces sports funding rounds by identifying suitable projects with sports clubs, providing guarantees of additional Council funding and putting our experience into writing outstanding applications,” he said.

“Earlier this year we asked sporting clubs for capital improvement submissions and from those we selected 13 that we felt had the best chance of success.

“Our efforts have really paid off again this year, with only two submissions missing out – this is an exceptional result for Logan’s sports clubs.

“I would like to congratulate the many sports club officials who partnered with Council in this initiative to put forward funding submissions and members of the various clubs who are involved in fundraising activities.”

Councillor Lutton said he looks forward to seeing the projects successful in securing funding being delivered.
