The $1.5 million Edward's Bridge rehabilitation project is on the road to completion.

After a bumpy start, the $1.5 million Edward's Bridge rehabilitation project is finally on the road to completion.

In early 2011, the project was dealt a devastating blow when Council was notified the company engaged for the design and fabrication of the bridge was unable to fulfil its contract for the works.

City Roads and Infrastructure Committee Chairperson, Councillor Ray Hackwood (Division 12), said since awarding Shamrock Civil Engineering Pty Ltd the contract in September, a lot of preplanning work had been completed.

He confirmed the project was on track with the commencement of construction work on the horizon.

"The relocation of the fibre optic communication is on track to commence this week and should be completed by late February," he said.

"Major works are due to start in late February and will include the construction of a roundabout at the Goodna and Ison Road intersection and the much-anticipated replacement of Edward's Bridge."

Councillor Hajnal Black (Division 11) welcomed the advancements and said she was pleased to see work was so close to commencing.

She said construction had been earmarked for completion in late September.

"Council understands that the reduced speed limits through the works zones may increase congestion in peak times, however the patience of the local community is appreciated and imperative to ensuring the successful completion of the project," she said.

"No diversions are anticipated at this time, however Council will do all it can to keep residents informed of the current situation."

The total funding for the project, including intersection and road improvements, is $2.5 million.
