2011 Garden Competition Awards
After dusting off the gardening gloves and months of blossoming, the winners of the 2011 Logan Garden Competition have come into flower.
The winners were announced at a ceremony at Berrinba Wetlands on Sunday 9 October.
Logan Mayor Pam Parker joined entrants and helped to congratulate the winners at the ceremony.
''I have heard it has been another tough year for the judges but I am delighted to again be here to celebrate the marvellous work these gardeners do,'' she said.
''It is always a pleasure to drive around this city and enjoy the many beautiful gardens we have and I commend all of the owners for their efforts to not only make their street more appealing, but the wider Logan community as well.''
The judges awarded winners across five categories with Logan Reserve's John and Marcia Rivett and Regents Park's Gavin & Debra Ottway awarded the prestigious title of joint Grand Champion - a first in the history of the competition.
Cr Parker said both entrants were most deserving winners of the Grand Champion.
"Word from the judges was both entries were extremely difficult to fault, both were very well balanced, neat and well maintained with an amazing WOW factor to their gardens," she said.
Customer Service, Marketing and Parks Committee Chairperson, Councillor Lynne Clarke (Division 7), said the pride entrants took in their gardens was evident.
"It is lovely to see the well-maintained gardens, which is obviously why the bus tours we operate in conjunction with this competition are so popular," she said.
"The garden competition entrants bring joy not only to themselves, but to the wider community in general who appreciate beautiful gardens."
Council is again hosting two bus tours to profile the winning gardens.
The bus tours run on Friday 14 October and have already sold out.
Both the Mayor and Cr Clarke congratulated all entrants who participated in the Logan 2011 Garden Competition for the effort they had gone to with their gardens.
First place winners included:
- Best small residential - Danny and Sue Collins
- Best large residential - John and Marcia Rivett and Gavin & Debra Ottway
- Best new entrant - Lorraine Teston
- Best rental - Joan Thompson
- Best school/community/child care centre - Park Ridge State School
