Logan City Council and Brisbane Lions kick off funding round
Published: 1 August 2016
The funding season is kicking off for Logan sports clubs with the announcement of Council grant funding for 2017.
The grants are designed to support the purchase of equipment to encourage junior participation in a wide range of sports and to provide assistance with travel and accommodation expenses for competitors selected for state, national and international sports events.
The funding is provided through a partnership between Logan City Council and Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy Football Club (BBFFC) which has provided almost 800 applicants with $450,000 since 2012.
Greg Swann, CEO of the Brisbane Lions, said the club was proud to be part of the Logan community.
“We see this program as a fantastic opportunity to help local sportspeople achieve their goals,” said Mr Swann.
“As a Club, we do thousands of hours of work in the community every year – it’s something at the heart of everything we do.”
In addition to this funding Logan City Council is also offering $150,000 under the Logan Sport and Recreation Funding Program to sporting clubs operating on council owned or controlled grounds – to help them maintain their grounds and facilities.
Councillor Steve Swenson said the grant provided an added incentive for clubs to conduct their own fundraising activities, by offering matching funding up to a certain level.
“Last year council received 61 applications and funded 41 of these to the value of $152,264 in projects totalling $356,164,” he said.
“The clubs themselves did a great job fundraising through raffles and securing grants from other sources."
