Logan clubs gifted a sporting chance

City of Logan clubs are to share in nearly $1.2 million in State Government sport and recreation funding announced this month.

Eleven Logan sports clubs will share in almost $1 million in State Government funding announced this month under the Get Playing Spaces and Places initiative to fund a variety of projects, from new lighting and irrigation systems to field improvements and building works.

In addition to this, a further 24 sporting and recreation clubs will share in nearly $165,000 in State Government funding announced this month under the Get Going Clubs initiatives aimed to help clubs grow by attracting new participants, training volunteers and purchasing new equipment.

Sport and Community Services Chairperson, Councillor Steve Swenson, said the funding support gave the clubs some certainty around their planned activities for 2017.

“It is wonderful news for our Logan Clubs, and this financial support compliments what Logan City Council is already committing towards supporting our local organisations and residents through its Logan Sports Development Program.”

“Our local clubs play such an important role connecting people in our community and supporting healthy and active lifestyles,” Cr Swenson said.

“As our city’s population continues to grow, so does the participation rates with our clubs so that’s why funding programs like this one offered by the State Government are so vital.”

“This funding announcement is a great result for local clubs and the wider community that uses them.”

Recipients successful in both the Get Playing Places & Spaces (Rd 5) and Get Going Clubs (Rd 5) announcement are listed below.
