Published: 19 May 2017
A major upgrade has commenced on New Beith Rd in Greenbank, between Hobury Rd and Citrine St, to improve road conditions and road safety.
Road users will have noticed changed road conditions are in place to manage the construction site.
Roads and Water Infrastructure Committee Chairman, Councillor Phil Pidgeon, said every effort would be made by Council and its contractor throughout the project to minimise any disruption.
“The upgrade will occur over a 1.7 kilometre section of road and includes widening of traffic lanes, new road surfacing, improving geometry through road corners, improved sight distances, and intersection upgrades.
“Motorists will notice some traffic changes, reduced speed limits and lane closures however typically two way traffic will be maintained. The exception will be during installation of cross road underground drainage and specific intersection works, which will require some half road closures, with associated one way traffic flows managed by temporary traffic signals.
“Access to New Beith Rd via Citrine St will be closed as the works are carried out at this intersection, we understand this may be inconvenient and to minimise the impact Council will notify residents ahead of these works commencing."
Cr Pidgeon asked residents and motorists to be patient while will the works were being completed.
“The majority of works will be carried out during the day from Monday to Saturday, however some night works and weekend works may be required at times for certain activities,” he said.
“Prior notice will be provided of any planned night or weekend works.”
“Motorists may experience some traffic congestion and travel delays during the works, we encourage people to plan their journey and allow ample travel time. Where possible, road users are advised to choose alternative routes, while these works are in progress.”
Works are expected to be completed in October 2017, weather conditions permitting.
A further stage of works on New Beith Rd is also planned following these works. This work will extend the New Beith Road upgrade from Citrine St through to Pub Lane. Detailed information on this work will be provided in the future.
