1,500 jobseekers already signed on to new jobs portal

In its first two months of going live, loganjobs.com.au has listed more than 570 local jobs and more than 1,500 jobseekers have signed up to find work in the City of Logan.
Loganjobs.com.au is an online hub linking City of Logan jobseekers with local employers. It’s an initiative of Logan City Council that aims to make it easier for people who live in Logan to search for jobs in their own community, and for employers to hire locally.
In delivering last month’s 2017/18 Budget, City of Logan Mayor Luke Smith reiterated that boosting local employment was a key part of Council’s plans for the city to become the next CBD in South-East Queensland.
“As we build this CBD, and as we continue to develop our six business centres right across our city, we will have to do so through innovative thinking,” Mayor Smith said.
"It will take bold steps to fire up the investment and business growth we need to create more jobs for our residents.
“One of the most consistent messages I hear is that people want to work close to where they live, and the new loganjobs.com.au portal is helping connect jobseekers with existing opportunities in the city.”
All Purpose Transport at Berrinba has used the site to help it hire locals.
General Manager Paul Kahlert said the transport and logistics company had a 300-strong workforce, which, through efforts over the past 12 months, now had an additional six per cent from the local area.
“By focusing on getting locals for staffing roles, we’ve found they are more engaged by having reduced travel to/from work,” Mr Kahlert said.
“From a driver perspective, our fleet is also growing. We use owner-drivers and have had success with our advertising on loganjobs.com.au in sourcing new drivers.
“I would estimate that we have had around 15 new owner-drivers join the business who are Logan residents.”
Since launching on 3 May 2017, the website has had more than 110,000 page views. Registered users can search for jobs and receive tailored job alerts direct from the site.
The loganjobs.com.au Facebook page is also proving popular, with more than 620 followers, who tag and share job opportunities, and follow updates about new employment trends and opportunities.
Loganjobs.com.au is free to use for City of Logan jobseekers and employers.
