Queensland Moto Park is located at Goan Rd, Coulson.

It has been less than two months since the gates of the regional trail bike facility swung open for the first time, but Queensland Moto Park is well and truly surpassing expectations.

Deputy Mayor Russell Lutton attended the opening of the Wyaralong facility in late-December on behalf of Council and said the facility had helped fill a void in recreational activities for residents in Logan City and neighbouring areas.

''In just over one month more than 3,500 riders have visited the facility which is fantastic; it certainly validates Council's decision to get behind the trail bike riders of our city and contribute financially to the development of this park,'' he said.

The development of Queensland Moto Park, formerly known as the Wyaralong Regional Trail Bike Facility, is a partnership arrangement with members of the South East Queensland Council of Mayors and the State Government.

Cr Lutton said SEQ Regional Recreational Facilities Pty Ltd was established by the eight contributing regional local governments: Logan; Brisbane; Gold Coast; Redland and Ipswich city councils; and Lockyer Valley; Scenic Rim; and Somerset regional councils; to develop and oversee the operations of Queensland Moto Park.

''The primary aim of this group is to identify, protect and develop sites that provide safe and legal options for trail bike riding,'' he said.

''Trail bike riders in Logan have made repeated approaches to Council in recent years asking for our support to help locate a suitable site and develop a safe facility for them to enjoy their sport - this facility is the end result.

''In total, involved councils and the State Government have contributed more than $2 million to the development of this facility with Logan City Council contributing $180,000. It is great to see the families of Logan getting behind and supporting the joint initiative of these councils and the state government.''

Health, Sport and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Phil Pidgeon (Division 9), said he was pleased to see the high level of support given to the new facility in its first month of operation.

''When Council contributes to initiatives like this, we do so with the expectation and hope it is a success so we are delighted to see such positive support for Queensland Moto Park,'' he said.

''Of the 3,500 riders to pass through the gates in the first month, 90% were from one of the eight partnering councils and three quarters of riders were adults with the remainder 16 years and under.

''I am confident as word spreads about the facility, this number will only increase.''

Cr Pidgeon encouraged riders to book online at www.qldmotopark.com.au to avoid queuing at the park. Queensland Moto Park is at Goan Rd, Coulson.
