Logan City Council has again demonstrated its commitment to efficiency by approving two major new retail developments in a matter of days.
A small group of assessors in Council’s Planning and Development team recently ran the rule over two developments - a 3,000 square metre showroom at the Logan Super Centre at Slacks Creek and a shopping centre and hotel development at Berrinba.
The application for the showroom extension at the Logan Super Centre was received on a Friday afternoon and returned to the applicants, Aventus Property, fully approved by Monday.
The shopping centre development on Wayne Goss Drive, Berrinba, was approved within a week.
Planning and Development chairperson Councillor Russell Lutton said the fast turnarounds are proof of Council’s commitment to the city’s economic development.
“In order to encourage investment and growth it’s essential that Council works with business in a proactive way,” Cr Lutton said.
“The RiskSmart Framework used to approve these developments ensures that business objectives are achieved while keeping to the Logan Planning Scheme.
“It is developments like these that will create jobs and feed the city’s growth.”
Councillor Jon Raven whose division takes in Berrinba said the shopping centre proposal is a popular one.
“The community is excited to see what that land would be used for, I know they’ll be pleased to have more dining options in our area,” Cr Raven said.
