Poh serves up a fresh take on City of Logan producers

Celebrity chef Poh Ling Yeow will showcase the best produce the City of Logan has to offer as the region's official food ambassador.

The host of SBS cooking show 'Poh and Co' will kick off her duties this Saturday, sourcing ingredients from a range of local producers to use in cooking demonstrations at Logan City Council's stand at the Brisbane Good Food and Wine Show.

Poh's cooking show will then travel to Woodridge on Sunday morning to stock up on more local products for another cooking demonstration at the Global Food Village.

A popular figure and tastemaker on Australia's culinary scene, Poh said she was looking forward to discovering new delicacies from the City of Logan and sharing them with the nation's food lovers.

"I am really excited about coming to Logan to meet local producers and see what they are growing and how," she said.

"From what I already know, the region boasts a rich mix of local produce, from large-scale growers and farmers supplying national supermarket chains to smaller producers with a focus on quality artisanal goods.

"One of the best parts of being a celebrity cook is having the opportunity to meet food producers all over Australia and discovering new ingredients to cook with so I can't wait to see what the City of Logan has in store for me."

Governance, Finance and Economic Development Chairperson, Councillor Luke Smith (Division 6), said the City of Logan had the right ingredients to become a destination for food tourism.

"We are thrilled to have Poh on board to showcase the City of Logan's growers," he said.

"The majority of our region — over 70 per cent of it — is rural, semi-rural or conservation and has a strong heritage as far as farming and agricultural production is concerned.

"I think now we're starting to see our friends in the city discover what is on their doorsteps and realise what the City of Logan has to offer.

"Visitors can spend a day here picking their own strawberries, drop into the new visitors' centre at the Beenleigh Rum Distillery on the banks of the Logan River or sample international street style cuisine and fresh produce at the Global Food Village."
