History

In 1863, Captain Robert Towns established a cotton plantation of 4,000 acres at a place he named Townsvale. This was the first cotton plantation in Queensland to employ Kanaka labour, and cotton from Townsvale was displayed at the Paris Exhibition in 1868 where it was awarded the gold medal. A few years later, brothers Veddon and Mathew Hinchcliffe set up a store on the main road to Townsvale. They called their store Veresdale. The first post office in the area opened on 1 January 1874. The railway opened on 16 May 1888. This railway line, now disused, ran from Beaudesert to the Beenleigh train line, linking with it at Bethania.

Veresdale Scrub was named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources on 24 April 1997. It was re-gazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy on 12 June 2009 under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. It is now a suburb in the City of Logan. Veresdale Scrub is on the east side of the Mount Lindesay Highway and is centred around the primary school of the same name. The residential streets to the south of the school were developed between 2004 and 2006.
