A message from new Leadership Team member: The Hon. Shannon Fentiman

The Honourable Shannon Fentiman is the newly appointed State Government representative on the Logan: City of Choice Leadership Team. Ms Fentiman is the Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Member for Waterford.

The Leadership Team invited the Minister to provide a message to share her commitment to Logan with City of Choice stakeholders.

It is a tremendous honour to be a part of the Logan: City of Choice Leadership Team. Before being elected as the Member for Waterford, I had the privilege to work on-the-ground with my community in Logan. I worked as an employment lawyer in Beenleigh and also volunteered as a Duty Solicitor at the Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre.

I have also worked with the Centre Against Sexual Violence in Logan for many years and was a board member of Logan Women's Health. I have always been passionate about fighting for gender equality and I am proud to serve as Queensland's Minister for Women.

As Minister for Multicultural Affairs I have begun to work closely with local community organisations in Logan to improve social and economic outcomes for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. I believe Logan's greatest strength is its multiculturalism. It is the generous spirit of the many people that call Logan home, and their generosity in welcoming new residents that makes Logan the wonderful place that it is.

Logan is a growing community and I want to see the next generation of our young people fulfilling their dreams and aspirations. This means we should aim for better higher education services and more local jobs. I would like to see smaller class sizes and more teachers in local schools, as well as better support for local families.

I want our young people to have the choice live and work in Logan, take ownership over local issues and play an important role in their community. I want Logan to continue to grow into a sustainable, thriving city. So it is a pleasure to be working alongside the incredible City of Choice Leadership Team, who I know together can make this happen.
