Education Portfolio Working Group holds first meeting
Representatives from the local education sector have met to advocate for positive change for local students.

The first meeting of the new City of Choice Education Portfolio Working Group was held this month, with more than 20 people from the local education sector attending.

Professor Lesley Chenoweth AO, the Education Portfolio leader for the City of Choice Leadership Team and working group chairperson, said the group's aim was to advocate for positive change in the education sector to improve outcomes for the whole Logan community.

"A workshop-style meeting will be held in November 2016, followed by three meetings in 2017," she said.

"Some early actions from the group include investigating the impacts of Pasifika students not being able to access higher education loan support, looking into kindergarten catchments being different to school catchments and the upskilling of the child-facing workforce to improve student engagement at schools."

Attendees represented the Department of Education and Training, Griffith University, Logan Together, Logan City Council and other community organisations. The meeting was held at Logan City Council's Administration Centre.
