Make your website multilingual - for free!
Published: 22 February 2016
A free tool is available to organisations wanting to make their website multilingual and accessible for all cultures within Logan.
Google Translate allows all web users to instantly translate their website into over 90 languages, but for some organisations the process has seemed daunting.
Here are five easy steps to explain how to add the Google Translate widget to your website.
Step 1: Sign in to Google
Go to https://translate.google.com/manager/website/
If you do not have a Google account, you can create one by following the prompts.
Step 2: Add your website URL
Click on the 'Add to your website now' button on the right-hand side.
Step 3: Set your options
You will be able to select your translation language and display mode on this page.
When you are finished making these choices, click 'Get Code'.
Step 4: Paste this code onto your website
- Copy and paste the generated code snippets onto every page you want to translate.
- Do not remove, conceal or alter the Google logo that is presented in websites containing the plug-in.
- Place this snippet where you'd like to display the Website Translator plug-in on your page
- Give it a spin!
Unless you selected the automatic display mode option, you should see a language selector on your page. Click the selector to translate the page!
Step 5: Manage translations
You can manage the translations made on your website,. You can then edit them if the translations aren't quite correct. To do this, click on the Manage Translations button at the end of the embedding process.
You can reach this option any time by going to https://translate.google.com/manager/website/ and logging in to your Google account.
