Ready, Read, Run at Woodridge North State School
Published: 27 April 2015
Logan City Council has partnered with Woodridge North State School Community Hub to support early years literacy development through the eight-week Ready, Read, Run program, which features "coaching" by former National Rugby League champion Scott Prince.
Focusing on children from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the program targets three and four-year-olds and combines reading and football to create a fun learning experience.
The first half-hour of the weekly program is a reading session supported by Logan Libraries staff, followed by Little Leagies with Scott Prince (for boys and girls). Little Leagies was founded and is directed by Prince and two other former NRL players Luke O'Dwyer and Ashley Harrison, developed in consultation with early childhood professionals.
This is not the first time Scott Prince has kicked goals for young readers. He is also the co-author of the award-winning children's book, Deadly D and Justice Jones: Making the Team, which he wrote with the former Deputy Principal at Woodridge North State School, Dave Hartley.
