Unique safety awareness program moves to Rochedale South

Home, car and personal security, graffiti and litter removal, and a family fun day are the focus of the dedicated Week of Action in Rochedale South this week (Monday 27 April - Friday 1 May).

Logan City Council Safe City Advisory Committee Chairperson, Deputy Mayor and Logan: City of Choice Leadership Team member, Councillor Russell Lutton (Division 2), said the event was part of a Logan: City of Choice partnership initiative with the Queensland Police Service to make everyone more aware of safety issues.

"It's a real community program, with Queensland Police, Neighbourhood Watch, PCYC and other volunteers set to be out and about providing information and support during the week," he said.

"Information displays, coffee talks and a family fun day will provide an opportunity for local people to participate more fully in their community during the Week of Action.

The Week of Action program has been previously held at Woodridge, Loganlea and Crestmead, and Cr Lutton said all agencies involved focused on each suburb's unique attributes, services, social infrastructure and community expectations of safety.

"By understanding the specific needs of our individual suburbs, we can deliver positive outcomes for residents," he said.

"Council is proactive in addressing safety across the city, which is evident in the recent opening of our new $1.3 million safety camera monitoring room, and the Week of Action is just another example of us working with residents and businesses to create safer streets.'

Cr Lutton encouraged locals to get involved with the program, saying it was a great opportunity for residents to meet the people who play a part in making Rochedale South such a great place to live.

"Rochedale South is already a very connected community but the activities planned will bring everyone together to focus specifically on safety and I can't wait to be involved," he said.

"I especially think the family fun day at Underwood Park, which includes a movie in the park, will be the highlight. Please come along to whatever activities you can – we'd love to see you there."
