Anti-Poverty Week is a week where all Australians are encouraged to organise or take part in an activity aiming to highlight or overcome issues of poverty and hardship here in Australia or overseas.
In 2017 Anti Poverty Week will be held from the 15th to the 21st of October.
In October 2014, ACOSS released a new report revealing that poverty is growing in Australia with an estimated 2.5 million people or 13.9% of all people living below the internationally accepted poverty line (ACOSS Poverty in Australia Report 2014).
In the City of Logan the following statistics were compiled through the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2011:
- It is estimated that 16.2% or 15,386 households were living below the accepted poverty line.
- Approximately 30% of households in Logan are using welfare payments as the main source of income.
